Chinese Lanterns of Zoominations

Sharing is caring!

Saturday is Chinese New Year. Good bye year of the monkey and year of the rooster.

Last year around this time, I was excited at the thought of my baby being a Fire Monkey in Chinese zodiac; I usually don’t ascribe to that sort of thing but the year of the Sheep didn’t seem to fit the little sea monkey I was cooking. And the year before that, I was looking forward to Zoominations at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.

Artists from China transformed to zoo with Chinese lanterns of silk and paper, and sculptures of china plates and vials of colored water.

The fun of zoo animals met with the traditions of Chinese culture.

All of this was a sight to see during the day but truly came to life after dark.

It is fun to get a taste of different cultures close to home; whether that is eating at your favorite Thai restaurant or a special event like Zoominations.

Should I do more photo essay style posts? Do you have any fun plans to celebrate Chinese New Year?
