Summer 2014 Bucket List

This seems like a grand place to start. Summer is almost in full swing here in Florida. Days where the temperature pushes 90 degrees, days that call the soul to the beach, all we are waiting on here are the afternoon rains to make it official. This bucket list also provides insight into what you can expect to read here on Sarah Under the Sea. So Here is my list of what the sweltering months will hopefully have in store for me this year.

1. Make it to London & Paris. My mom and I are going in August; until then I am losing my mind trying to book tickets and accommodations. So far I have booked the airfare, two lovey rooms from AirBnB (one in London and one Paris), Chunnel tickets, and tickets to see Miss Saigon at Prince Edwards Theatre. The only booking I have any confidence in is the theatre tickets. Confession: This is my first time having to plan a trip from beginning to end. I am certain I could have found better deal for airfare, this will be my first time using AirBnB; so I imagine I will have lots of lessons learned to write about in the coming months.

2.Survive the Louisiana swamp. I will be traveling with my boyfriend’s Venture Crew to kayak the Louisiana swamps. I enjoy nature but am not known for my utter rejection of creature comforts. I will miss toilets, and am nervous about the bugs/snakes/spiders (I can stare down any gator, but NOT a spider). All this being said, I am looking forward to it (I think I might be crazy).

3. Improve my photography skills. Though my good camera will not be coming with me to the swamp, it will be joining me across the pond. When I went to Africa last summer I did not expect to enjoy photography as much as I did, and now I page through my pictures wishing I would have known more about how to (properly) use my beastly camera. I don’t intend to make the same mistake twice. If I am spending the money to go there, I am going to spend the time to bring back the best photo memories I can. I know I cannot become a pro in the next two and half months, but I can grow as an ameteur photographer. This means practice and a little help from a Groupon training course.

4. Get ready for and ace the GRE. It has been three years since I graduated with my BS and big dreams of grad school. Now it is time to actively take steps to get my butt back to school. I bought an online prep course with a Groupon (there might be a theme here?) and I have yet to start studying. I took the old version twice but I figure I will see if the new version doesn’t help my scores a bit.

5. Make my house a home. Shh…This one will be our little secret. I moved in with my boyfriend, who bought the family home from his grandmother, a month ago. So far all we have accomplished is repainting the master bedroom, and dreaming big for the rest of the house. The absence of a queen sized headboard is preventing us from moving into said master bedroom and we have plans to repaint almost every room in the house. Lets get on it so this house can become our home!

6. Find time to dive around Florida. I have been diving for 11 years and when I look at my dive book I am forced to recognize my abysmal lack of dives in my home state of Florida, despite all the awesome dive sites it has to offer. A handful of dives in the Florida Keys, Boyton Beach, and Venice Beach does not a Florida diver make.

7. Level up to Silver in skating. Oh, yeah, and I figure skate. Jumps, spins, glitter, and judges; the whole nine-yards. I already have most of my single jumps and forward spins. Moving up means improving the jumps I already have, building on my lutz, cleaning up my camel spin, figuring out the backspin, and maybe even getting started on training my axel! It will be a lot of hard work but I find it super rewarding.

8. Get serious about blogging. I think my life is funny and I enjoy writing. I want a place to post my photos; the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I think this list may be too small for a girl who has quickly discovered a reticence (GRE word?) for sitting still, but it seems comfortably doable. Only time will tell.
